PAPA JOHNS IN THE UK

The first British Papa Johns restaurant to open was in Grays, Essex, way back in 1999. And to further commit to our core mission of ‘Better Ingredients. Better Pizza.’, we opened our own 100% fresh Dough Plant in 2004 in Milton Keynes.

2005

In 2005, we opened the first Papa Johns training centre outside the US to ensure that our UK staff received the best onboarding and education possible to deliver delicious pizza every shift.

DEVELOPMENT

2010

In 2010, our UK head office functions were relocated to Milton Keynes which now houses 100 employees on-site and includes a QCC (Quality Control Centre). It’s here where we maintain our meticulous standards of quality, cleanliness, and — of course — tastiness. We’re serious about our pizza.

2013

Since setting roots in the UK, our store numbers grew and grew, until we celebrated the opening of our 200th UK store in 2013. As of 2024, Papa Johns has over 450 UK stores in England, Wales, and Scotland.

Meet the brilliant minds behind our operations.

Todd Penegor was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2024 with 20 years of experience in the restaurant and consumer goods industries. He was also appointed to the Board of Directors. He joined Papa Johns from The Wendy’s Company, where he served as President, CEO and Chief Financial Officer, among other executive leadership roles.

Chris first joined Papa Johns in 2008, and returned in 2020 as VP of International Supply Chain. Promoted to UK Managing Director in 2023, he focuses on profitability and results. With extensive industry experience - including roles at TGI Fridays, Wagamama, and Norwegian Cruise Lines - he brings strategic leadership across sourcing and global brand operations.

Grant joined Papa Johns in June 2023 as Senior Director of Corporate Operations, with his role expanding in February 2024 to include franchisee operations. He now leads the transformation of franchise & corporate UK store operations. Previously, Grant held positions at Wendy's, KFC, and McDonald's across various global markets.

Bec joined Papa Johns as Brand Director in September 2023, and became Marketing Director in January 2024. She leads all marketing strategy, deployment and optimisation, using data-driven insights to boost brand sentiment, loyalty, and market share. Her experience spans customer-centric F&B and tech brands, including Deliveroo, Domino’s, and The Restaurant Group.

UK Marketing Director

Wayne joined Papa Johns in December 2021 with over 20 years' experience across equity, franchised, and independent restaurants in the UK and Europe. Previously, he led operations at JET (Just Eat Takeaway) and Pizza Hut UK, where he developed scalable, operator-led models focused on food and technology for global distribution.

Gemma joined Papa Johns as Senior HR Business Partner in October 2023, bringing over 12 years of HR experience. She focuses on organisational design, talent management, and leadership development. Her background spans many industries, giving her insight into diverse business and operational environments.

Robert joined Papa Johns as Supply Chain Director in May 2019, before becoming QCC & Supply Chain Director in January 2023. He focuses on supply chain cost management and efficiency to boost store profitability and ROI. Robert brings extensive supply chain experience from leading UK quick-service restaurant brands.
